About Jeena Murphy

The first long fiction piece I wrote was a plagiarised version of Watership Down featuring guinea pigs, not rabbits. At nine, I had no idea about copyright.

When I was younger, I was interested in film, documentary and spoken word storytelling. Once I started my business and my family, I chose to work with the written word as it was something I could do without needing to collaborate.

I’ve completed four novels, but this is the first novel I’ve taken through to publication.

Publishing successes include short stories in three anthologies, along with plays and short stories in the New Zealand School Journal.

I have written and produced five Insight and Spectrum documentaries for Radio New Zealand. I’ve also co-won a Sir Julius Vogel award for the fan fiction documentary Renaldo: First Sheep on the Moon.

Another recent achievement is fledging my two young adults into the world. I’m very proud they are both have active artistic lives and are in their own words, thriving.

I live on the Miramar Peninsula in Wellington, reaping the rewards of our Predator Free movement, where we have brought our native birds back into the city. Sitting on my deck watching the all the life around me, fills me with hope that if we work together, we can solve our societal problems.
